About the Band

The Dickens

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts - we had a blast. The Dickens were AWESOME.”

With more than a decade of experience creating the most unforgettable nights at weddings, festivals,  college formals and corporate events, The Dickens have refined their craft into a perfect marriage of creative sophistication, rock n' roll edge, and pure awesomeness. The band’s fashion-forward confidence and positive energy foreshadows inspirational moments to come at every event. A comfortably-cool presence onstage puts guests at ease, connects a crowd with the music and rhythm of the event, and allows for moments of amazing audience involvement. Natural party-goers will heed their comfortable calls to have a blast (as usual), while even the most reserved guests will often hit the dance floor the hardest.

The songs -- always a killer mix of new jams and old favorites -- are designed to elevate the energy of any event. From timeless party tunes to electrifying medleys and mashups, The Dickens approach every set to make eyes widen and hearts feel full.

Like bourbon aging in a barrel, The Dickens chemistry has been crafted over time and evolved as both refreshing and unique over hundreds of successful celebrations. While most bands might claim one accomplished singer, The Dickens proudly presents a collective vocal powerhouse to lead the magic at every performance. Percy Womack and Joey Barnes each have an approach and personality that reveal that this band is not cut from an ordinary cloth. Joined by guitarist Fran Sandifer and drummer Quincy Mooring, who both contribute to the lead vocal dynamic as well, and bassist Steve Graham who keeps a groove like few others in the business, The Dickens delivers every show with poise and passion.

Dressed to the nines and in tune with the flow at every event, this group delivers satisfaction on and off the stage. Just ask the hundreds of brides and professional event planners they’ve rocked since 2005. Ambassadors of Motown, rock’n’roll, hip-hop, and everything a la soul … The Dickens is a standard on which party quality and variety is measured in the Southeast.

With the Dickens, the bar is set high. Awesome takes time.

Testimonial

I cannot have had a better band! They were AMAZING! Everyone at the wedding keeps talking about how good they were. I really appreciate them seeing what I wanted to play as well as being so fun. If we ever need a band we will always use them. They made our wedding spectacular.

"
The Dickens were fantastic! All of the members were great, fun and talented. They had everybody on the dance floor and kept the party going! They even coordinated a last song and dance that I surprised Colleen with at the end of the night. We were very happy with our experience.

We were all very happy with the band and how our event turned out. They did a great job throughout the evening playing the kind of music we liked and varying the styles too. We had a lot of people compliment them that night and the following days saying they loved the live band.

FAQs

Find answers to your questions about our bands and booking process right here.

What is the cost to book a band for an event?

We offer bands for nearly every budget, starting around $2,000 and going up to $15,000+. Most dance bands range between $3,500 and $8,500.

Does a band provide all their instruments and sound equipment?

Bands bring instruments and sound equipment for most weddings and events, covering up to several hundred guests. For larger events, additional sound support can be arranged for a fee or through a vendor you provide.

Do bands provide lighting?

All bands provide basic lighting for their performance area, but this isn’t decor lighting for the whole space. Light stands typically feature a few white or colored LED or par cans. Some bands can adjust lighting to fit the event, or they can skip it if you’re working with a separate lighting vendor.

How long can I expect the band to play?

Special event bands charge a single fee for up to a 4-hour block, including breaks. They’ll play a preset playlist during breaks, scheduled around natural pauses like speeches or cake cutting. For a 4-hour event, bands need at least 45 minutes of break time, usually split into two 20-25 minute breaks. Some bands offer a three-hour no-break option and can add overtime for an extra fee.

How far in advance should I book a band?

Spring and fall Saturday events often book a year or more in advance, with popular dates typically securing bands 8-15 months ahead. Non-Saturday events book closer to the date, and we often help clients with shorter timelines (2-6 months) find great bands. Booking early increases your options for in-demand bands, so reach out soon!
