About the Band

Jackass Flats

This ultra-talented Virginia quintet comes from a long-standing bluegrass tradition but creates a wholly original sound by weaving their melting pot of acoustic roots music with the sounds of electric rock’n’roll. Jackass Flats works their magic across all genres, combining a unique blend of jam band rhythms with twangy versions of contemporary hits that can elevate any event into a unique, rousing experience. They bring crowds to their feet with an astonishing array of party classics from traditional Bluegrass, Country, Classic Rock, Soul, R&B, Pop music and beyond. Expect a repertoire that runs the gamut from Johnny Cash to The Beatles, Willie Nelson to Prince, Smokey Robinson to The Rolling Stones, all delivered with warm southern charm and infectious energy.

From formal affairs to down-home occasions, Jackass Flats has the look, feel and sound that spans generations, brings family and friends to the dance floor and puts big smiles on wedding guests and wedding planners alike. Honing their sound in the Richmond VA scene, Jackass Flats combines the traditional approach of interwoven harmonies and strings and a ‘newgrass’ frame of mind. In their early days, Jackass Flats won the Virginia State Bluegrass Championship and Best Americana Band at the Virginia Music Awards. This band is a true phenomenon with a long history of wowing crowds, pleasing event planners and helping turn memorable moments into unforgettable funky southern good times!

LIVE PERFORMANCES

Testimonial

We were absolutely thrilled with the band's performance — it was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our wedding day. Jackass Flats nailed it with the perfect songlist and maintained just the right energy throughout the entire evening. Our guests couldn't stop raving about the music, and it truly made the celebration memorable. Travis, in particular, was a delight to work with, and his professionalism did not go unnoticed.

"
We could not have been more thrilled with having Jackass Flats as our wedding band! It was like going to a (really, really good!) live show with all our best friends and family exactly what we dreamed for our wedding. They were personable, funny, extremely talented, and got our vibe/taste down so well. They played all the songs we requested and so many more from our favorite bands and curated an incredible set that was perfect for each moment of the night. Their energy was fantastic and it's always so fun when you can tell the artists are having fun, too. We truly cannot thank them enough for helping create such a magical event.

"
The band was a big hit! Everyone commented on how good they were, and I even saw an older couple twostepping to quite a few of the songs. The music selections were spot on for our Ranch Day theme, familiar to most everyone which was a wide variety of ages.

Jackass Flats was fantastic! Travis was very easy to work with and did a nice rendition of the first dance song we requested. We've already discussed that it would be fun to have them play an encore for a party down the road!

FAQs

Find answers to your questions about our bands and booking process right here.

How much does it cost to book a band?

We offer bands for nearly every budget, from local jazz combos starting at $750 to top party bands at $10,000+. Most dance bands for weddings or events range between $2500 and $7500.

Does a band provide all their instruments and sound equipment?

Bands bring instruments and sound equipment for most weddings and events, covering up to several hundred guests. For larger events, additional sound support can be arranged for a fee or through a vendor you provide.

Does the band provide lighting?

Most bands provide basic lighting for their performance area, but this isn’t decor lighting for the whole space. Light stands typically feature a few white or colored LED or par cans. Some bands can adjust lighting to fit the event, or they can skip it if you’re working with a separate lighting vendor. Note: smaller bands, like acoustic or jazz groups, usually don’t bring lighting.

How long can I expect the band to play?

Special event bands charge a single fee for up to a 4-hour block, including breaks. They’ll play a preset playlist during breaks, scheduled around natural pauses like speeches or cake cutting. For a 4-hour event, bands need at least 45 minutes of break time, usually split into two 20-25 minute breaks. Some bands offer a three-hour no-break option and can add overtime for an extra fee.

How far in advance should I book a band?

Spring and fall Saturday events often book a year or more in advance, with popular dates typically securing bands 8-15 months ahead. Non-Saturday events book closer to the date, and we often help clients with shorter timelines (2-6 months) find great bands. Booking early increases your options for in-demand bands, so reach out soon!
