THE SWEETWATER BAND, since it’s formation in 1990 has played for such acts as Shenandoah Confederate Railroad, Doug Supernaw, Aaron Trippin, Sammy Kershaw, Davis Daniels, Stacy Dean Campbell, Charlie Daniels, Tracy Byrd, Wade Hayes, and most recently, Ty Herndon, Vern Gosdin and David Lee Murphy.
THE SWEETWATER BAND, as it is today, has grown to it’s popularity because of the adverse background in musical interests. The blend of Jazz, Blues, Rock, Top 40, and Country is expressed in every song that this unusual band puts together. As you listen to the music, you will find yourself wondering how these musicians happened to find themselves in this Country band. Their song selection ranges from Lynard Skynard to Steve Earle, Pat Benatar to Trick Pony and Travis Tritt to Delbert McClinton (to name only a few).
THE SWEETWATER BAND has traveled from the Carolina’s and has performed in such clubs as the former Blackie’s (Springfield, VA), Houston’s (Fredricksburg, VA), Charlottesville’s own Max Night Club as well as Cattle Annie’s in Lynchburg. It has also been affiliated with the Mental Health Associations’ Annual Country Music Festival since 1990. We are also proud to say that performances in Nashville’s historical Tootsie’s Lounge, The Nashville Palace and The Hall of Fame, is amongst some of the credentials of the bands’ lead singers.
THE SWEETWATER BAND is made up of some of the finest in the area and play second to no other band in their field. Junior Shifflett (Bass Player/Lead/Harmony Vocals) is one of the newest members of THE SWEETWATER BAND. Eddie Shifflett (Lead/Harmony Vocals and Lead/Acoustic Guitar) began playing Bluegrass at a very young age, is one of the original members of THE SWEETWATER BAND. Dave Marrs (Lead Guitar and Vocals) has been playing with THE SWEETWATER BAND for ten years. Within the past few years he has stepped to the fount to give audiences the pleasure of Southern Rock. His talent often captures the amazement of the crowd as they watch him bring notes to live. His musical career began at the age of sixteen. Drew Monger (Drums) has been the backbone of THE SWEETWATER BAND for many years. His love for Rock and Blues often show while playing. Although he is often not seen, his talent does not go unrecognized. Sandra Wanless (Vocals) is one of the founders and organizers of THE SWEETWATER BAND. She began her singing career in December of 1984 after an appearance at a local benefit. Her love for all styles of music shows as she steps up to the microphone. Bobby Jones (Vocals) is Manager and also one of the founders of THE SWEETWATER BAND. His love for music began while singing Gospel in the local church. His vocal style has often been compared to such artists as Travis Tritt and Delbert McClinton. His strong vocal capabilities, showmanship and business head is what has made him so well-known and well-liked amongst his peers.
