Biography: Rum Punch Bandits

Kevin Loop and Bob Robinson gave birth to the Rum Punch Bandits in November,2000 after Kevin accepted a 2 night stint at Half Shell Harry's Raw Bar in Augusta, GA for a band that didn't yet exist. With Kevin on lead vocals and acoustic guitar and BobRob on congas, the two recruited DeWayne Allen to fill out the rhythm section as the bass man. Then the challenge...prepare enough material to fill a 3 hour time-slot...in 2 weeks! The gigs went well considering the time crunch and the rest sort of progressed like this:
* 2001 - The RPB's add lead guitarist John Griffin of Fort Mill, SC
* 2002 - DeWayne retires from the band and JT Layton of Matthews, NC
takes over the bass duties
* 2003 - The RPB's add drummer Eddie Pernick and bass player Donny
Martin, with JT sliding to keyboards and pedal steel
* 2005 - Scott Dowless joins the Bandits as a lead electric guitarist
Since that dubious beginning, the Bandits have performed over 250 gigs throughout the southeast; they played
prior to Jimmy Buffett at the Colonial Center in Columbia, SC in '03, '04 & '05; they performed two grand openings for the Cheeseburger in Paradise Restaurant chain (Myrtle Beach & Asheville) as well as corporate performances, music festivals, weddings, pig pickin's, benefits, private parties, public parties, beach parties and Parrot Head parties!
