Biography: New Line Brass Band
>>VIEW SONGLIST
Its big, its brassy, and if you want funky New Orleans parade music, here comes the NEW LINE BRASS BAND. Built in the tradition of Olympia, Treme, and the Dirty Dozen, the NEW LINE BRASS BAND combines the talent and experience of the Dixie Power Trio with one of Washington/Baltimore’s finest horn lines. The result is raw, fun, and full of energy. Blending a mixture of traditional brass band standards, spirituals, zydeco, and original compositions, the group plays music with a loose vibe and a funky groove.
This DPT project band has been performing in various combinations since 1998. They have appeared at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage, the Great American Brass Band Festival, the 2000 Vice-Presidential debates, the Rockwood Manor Ice Cream Festival, The Bluemont Concert Series, and in numerous smaller concert settings. NEW LINE BRASS BAND's debut CD Bad Spuds has been acclaimed by the Washington Post, and has been heard on the Warner Brothers TV show Elimidate Deluxe (we won't vouch for the actual show, but we approve of their taste in music!).
The NEW LINE BRASS BAND's lineup includes nationally acclaimed tuba player Andy Kochenour, drummer Byron McWilliams, guitarist Wayne Wilkinson, and trumpet player/accordionist Zachary Smith- all members of the Dixie Power Trio. The horn line has included a mix of DC. and Baltimore pros, including Dave Finnell, Dan Haverstock, or Robert Vetter on trumpet; Harry Watters, Jay Gibble, or Dan Haverstock on trombone with Frank Mitchel, James Cotton, or Bruce Swaim on saxophone. These talented musicians feel at ease playing on the street or on stage, serving up the music of the people the way it's supposed to be done--New Orleans style.
