The MUSTANGS BAND plays 60's Soul, STAX & Motown. They also do a large selection of Rock & Roll, Rhythm & Blues, 70's Funk and Disco, 50's, Standards, Swing and Big Band. The MUSTANGS BAND plays the songs like you remember them, as close to the original recordings as possible. You'll love hearing those favorites again! THEIR SOUND IS RAW AND REAL - 100% live music!
We are the premier and only authentic soul band in the Washington DC metropolitan area. We can say this because our group is made up of players who have exclusively played this music all of their musical careers. Our band members grew up on this music. We didn't just decide to learn soul music because it was marketable, like many other bands that boast that they can do everything and anything....we're not gonna tell you that.
We play soul music because we love soul music. Because the MUSTANGS BAND have been performing together in the Washington area since 1992 with few changes in personnel (we added a third lead singer and a percussionist in 1997), you will be witness to one of the tightest bands on the East coast. So, If you've seen us before, or been to one of the events at which we have we performed, you'll be getting the same band you enjoyed in the past.
The MUSTANGS BAND boasts a powerful trio of lead vocalists who cover artists from Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and Etta James to Wilson Pickett, Al Green, Arthur Conley, James Brown and Sinatra. Lead vocalist Barbara Malone is considered the premier diva of soul in the Washington/Baltimore Metopolitan area. Skip Mahoney has been wowing crowds with the Casuals since his string of top 10 hits in the 1970's and he is also currently the lead singer with the Oriole's vocal group. The 2 Davids, singer Akers and guitarist Panzer, have traveled all over the world as members of Wilson Pickett's touring band. They have also worked with the Flamingos, Gene Chandler, Sam Moore (of Sam and Dave), and many other legends. David Akers came on board in 1996 and covers everything from Sinatra to James Brown. David Panzer, also The Mustangs' bandleader, sings a wide variety of rock & roll, in addition to providing his most excellent lead and rhythm guitar to the band. You'll not find a finer guitarist anywhere. Add a dynamic three piece horn section, sax, trumpet and trombone, and rhythm section and THIS IS the hottest soul band in the entire DC area.
