Biography: Crewe d'Bayou
>>VIEW SONGLIST
Crewe d’Bayou has performed live at First Night Virginia, on-air at WTJU and WNRN, and on NBC, as well as numerous regional festivals and performing venues. The band travels with a transportable sound system, an arsenal of songs and a groove both memorably unique and instantly familiar to fans of New Orleans music.
Come dance and sing along to “the best New Orleans-style party this side of the Louisiana state line.” Matty Metcalfe picked up an accordion from a yard sale at age 15 and began a journey that would take him around the world. After hearing Buckwheat Zydeco play the squeezebox, Matty tightened his focus to Louisiana-based Cajun and Zydeco music. With Crewe d'Bayou, Matty blends songs and styles from New Orleans musical icons--Professor Longhair, Allan Toussaint, and Dr. John, to mention a few--with contemporary explorations in jazz, Latin, and European music, creating a new sound that at once recalls the inimitable dance grooves and parade lines of Mardi Gras, but also takes the listener on a trans-continental musical expedition.
Crewe d’Bayou show their New Orleans roots proudly, reinterpreting and revitalizing songs by Ray Charles, Beausoleil, and the Meters—giving each a distinctively different flavor, but tying them together with infectious dance beats and sing-along choruses. Led by Matty’s swinging accordion melodies, the band recreates the feel of Bourbon Street on Fat Tuesday. With an ever-expanding repertoire of over one hundred songs, dating back to those of Fats Domino and the early Dixieland bands, and up to present day hits--including many of Metcalfe’s original Bayou-inspired tunes--the band can accommodate any client and any venue.
