Biography: Chris Vasi Project

Chris Vasi brings an easygoing virtuosity to his performances. His mastery of the guitar is the result of decades of musical obsession, study, and playing experiences. Chris is fluent in a variety of styles, including modern and vintage jazz, rock, funk, blues, and world music. He has recorded 12 CDs over the years, and played over a
thousand gigs from Canada to Florida, including clubs, colleges, and receptions. Vasi holds a bachelor’s degree in Music. His original compositions have been played by the Jazz Composers Alliance and his music has appeared in Guitar Player magazine. In 2005 Vasi released Moon Over Mars, an album of acoustic instrumentals.
Chris is available to perform in a number of different settings including solo, duo and with his band Vesuvius.
Vesuvius is a 3-piece instrumental unit with Vasi on electric and acoustic guitars, playing funky, improvised jazz
and Latin, while also touching on reggae, world music and gypsy jazz. Vesuvius hits some fresh Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan, salutes jazz masters like Wes Montgomery and Herbie Hancock, and their take on Britney Spears’
“Toxic” must be heard!
The Vasi Jazz Duo adds just the right touch to any sophisticated upscale event as well as more intimate and
smaller venues. Guitar and upright bass combine for soulful, energetic jazz standards (modern and vintage) and
Cuban and Brazilian songs. A guitar/percussion duo is also available, featuring the inimitable Drex Weaver.
Chris Vasi as a solo guitarist draws from an impressive range of material, and plays a self-contained style often
keeping chords, bass line, and melody going simultaneously. Jazz solos (Joe Pass-style), reinterpretations of popular favorites, sweet bossa nova melodies, and originals inspired by Leo Kottke are all in the mix.
Chris also has a keen ability to play to the room, adjusting the volume and repertoire appropriately to the audience and situation. One thing that hasn’t changed over the decades is that people love to hear great guitar playing, and Mr. Vasi delivers!
