Biography: The Camaros

The CAMAROS were born going 75 mph, headed west on I-90.
Jen Jones, itinerant swing singer gone country, figured if you add walking bass to a country song it'll swing as much as anything. It was a short jump (thanks to lots of old records and new songs) from there to discovering Rockabilly and mutating it into Swingabilly. Jen was born in Baton Rouge and sang almost everything, in five cities, for ten years. Trapped in a "real lounge," doing piano bar for too long, she realized The CAMAROS were the perfect escape from pickled old men and happy hour buffet food. But she soon found out you can take the girl out of the lounge, but...you know the rest.
Jen was checking out the different bands and styles New York had to offer; a diversity fueled by the national movement toward roots music. Of all the bands she saw, it was the swing bands that really inspired her. They had all that ultra cool dancing, everyone in their favorite vintage gear, and the bands were hot! With little division between the dancers, hangers and bands, everyone seemed to carry weight in making it all happen. Jen met Lee Ann Westover, one of the best young dancers on the scene, and while they were trading dance lessons for piano they discovered a vocal simpatico that became The CAMAROS' trademark; May 28, 1997, saw the first CAMAROS Swingabilly gig, at the Rodeo Bar in NYC.
Since '97 The CAMAROS have provided swingin' music to many wedding receptions and private parties. Their extensive repetoire includes standards from Billie Holliday and Frank Sinatra to Elvis and Patsy Cline. Always happy to learn songs at the special request of the client, the band provides 6 musicians (two horns available), sound system, and a special classy look. starting soft and jazzy, by the end of the four hour engagement they will be rocking- easily inspiring everyone to get on the dance floor!
