Biography: Blinky Moon Boys
"The Blinky Moon Boys" is a name that people tend to remember. The name actually comes from a joke that was told about the goings on at a "Blinky Moon Tourist Court" in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Such an unusual name is fitting for a group of uncommon musicians.
The Blinky Moon Boys actually live in Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia; geography dictates that they keep their performances to a minimum, but that's one thing that keeps the music so refreshing. Each band member has played with their own hometown bands and nationally recognized acts over the years, but the real magic starts when they perform together.
The glue that holds the Blinky Moon Boys together is their shared vision and deep appreciation for the first generation Bluegrass musicians. You can hear the driving banjo style of Earl Scruggs, the smooth brand of Kentucky/Tennessee fiddling, and the punctuated mandolin style of Monroe. You'll also hear the soulful mountain singing of the Stanleys and a "bounce" reminiscent of Jimmy Martin.
