Biography: Uncle Henry's Favorites
UNCLE HENRY'S FAVORITES has for many years been part of a very active community of traditional musicians around Charlottesville, Virginia. The area has many excellent musicians and dance callers, and for many of us, a way of life has developed around jam sessions, community dances, and music festivals. In the summer of 1976, Pete and Ellen attended J.P. and Annadeene Fraley's family festival in Kentucky, calling their band Uncle Henry's Favorite Chigger Stompers. With the name shortened to UNCLE HENRY'S FAVORITES, the band existed in various forms over the next nine years. The four- Pete, Ellen, Jim and Mark- have been playing together since 1985 as UNCLE HENRY'S FAVORITES.
UNCLE HENRY'S FAVORITES is composed of your typical bluegrass instruments: fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, and banjo. While playing traditional American old-time bluegrass string music, they continue to please new crowds with every show. They teach and call square dances such as the Virginia Reel. Don't let inexperience keep you from attending, for UNCLE HENRY'S FAVORITES promises it isn't necessary to have a good time.
