Biography: Cyrus McCormick and the Reapers
The first thing that strikes you about the Reapers is the song list. One third of the songs hit #1 on the charts. Another third was second or third. These songs have provided the soundtracks for movies, commercials and the lives of five generations. No other music has enjoyed the popularity and the longevity of these songs. Virtually every age loves the top hits of the fifties and the sixties.
Then there is the show. The Reapers honed their skills in clubs and fraternity houses in the seventies and today, thirty five years later, they continue to thrill audiences. Think Dirty Dancing meets Animal House on American Bandstand and you’ll have some idea of a Reapers show. You’ll see the Shag, the Bop, the Twist, the Stroll, the Bristol Stomp and even a gator or two.
Finally, there is the music. The Reapers have perfected the a capella, fingerpoppin’ doo wop sounds of the fifties (Dion and the Belmonts, The Dell Vikings, The Five Satins), the raucous roadhouse rock ‘n roll of Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard and the ballads of crooners like The Righteous Brothers and Sam Cooke. This wide range of sounds has made the Reapers favorites at weddings, college campuses and at outdoor concert series from Richmond to Annapolis and many venues between.
So go ahead. Step out with the best party band that the Commonwealth has to offer: Cyrus McCormick and the Reapers. Be there or be square.
