Biography: Coppertones
>>VIEW SONGLIST
The Coppertones, a six-piece dynamo based in Charleston SC burst on to the local scene in August of 2004. Born of a need for great party entertainment within the means of everyone, and a desire to recapture classic R&B and Carolina Beach music the way it was meant to be; performed live, with four-part harmony as the star of the show. A desire to bring great party entertainment to their clients without a gang of technicians, stacks of equipment, ear-piercing volumes or excessive costs.
The Coppertones hit the ground running. Their very first show they opened (to excellent reviews) for Billy Scott, of Billy Scott and the Georgia Prophets. WIthin a few short weeks, they opened for The Coastline Band, and never looked back.
With their range of vocals (Larry's deep bass, Rich and J R's tenor and Judy's alto) it became apparent early on that this would be a band grounded in harmonies, reminisecent of bands such as The Four Tops, The Temptations, and countless 50's doo-wop groups. Musicianship was not left behind. Jim and Rich are outstanding soloists, J R and Tom form a solid groove, and Larry's rich Hammond organ holds it all together.
In October of 2005 South Carolina Homes and Gardens called them "The Lowcountry's favorite Beach Band." Praise began to roll in from individuals prominent in the Carolina Beach Music establishment. In February of 2006, they conpleted their first studio project highlighted by original compositions, Party Down the Street and Eat Mo' Grits. These songs maintain the classic Beach beat that shaggers love so well. And the latest release Real Man featuring Judy Marshall, is receiving the same rave reviews as it climbs up Beach Music Charts from DJ's all across the Southeast.
