Biography: Acme Swing Manufacturing Co.
>>VIEW SONGLIST
If Wile E. Coyote and Cab Calloway had a love child, it would be ACME Swing Mfg. Co. This isn’t sit-on-your-can and-listen-music. This is jazz you wanna dance to. Clarinet and sax lines, girl-girl harmonies, thumpin’ bass and drums a-plenty, guitar and accordion combine to give you the best hot jazz combo experience this side of The Cotton Club.
ACME’s powerhouse lineup includes Mary Beth Revak on lead vocals, Haywood Giles on saxophones, Victor Lee on clarinet, Jackson Boylan on guitar, Jim Howe on percussion, Sam Green on acoustic bass and Susanna Rosen on vocals, uke and accordion. Serious mugging has been spotted to be the talent of each ACME member.
Reproducing the spirit of the speakeasy but not stuck in that “retro-novelty” niche, this Spiffy Seven slays you with originals, sprinkles in Blues, Bop, Latin and Rock. You have only to hear their version of “Caravan” (which includes a little “Hava-Nagila”) or their famous mechanized Warner-Brothers cartoon-theme, “Powerhouse” (accompanied by Slinkys) to realize how their collective personality is set on the Coyote’s dial: “Seriously Ridiculous.” In the sharpest of musical ways.
Their rhythm section will create in you an intense desire to grind, Jump, Jive and Wail, and High-De-Ho all over the place. Charlottesville Virginia’s own answer to the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Asylum Street Spankers, and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Don’t miss!
